Functional Prerequisites for Hand Hygiene

  • Each work room must have a sink, preferably touchless, that is easily accessable to personnel.
  • Wash facilities must also be installed in the vacinity of unclean working areas.
  • The washbasin must have provision for hot and cold running water, preferably a single level mixing tap.
  • The washbasin used by staff must be equipped with touchless dispensers e.g. soap dispenser and a paper towel dispenser.
  • The water outlet must not be direct straight to the siphon so as to prevent splashing of water harbouring microbes.
  • Touchless or foot pedal bin must be provided for collecting used paper towels and must be emptied regularly.
